I just replaced the shifter boot on my 1973 3.0 CS

I want to document this while it is fresh in my mind.

1. Unzip shifter boot

2. Reach in and disconnect the plug from the power window switches. I did this one switch at a time, placing the switches into separate plastic bags and labeling.

3. With the switches out, you will be able to see a small screw on each side between the front and rear switch (inside the console)

4. Remove each screw

5. The top of the console pulls out

6. Unplug the wires from the windshield wiper speed control.

7. Unplug the 2 wires from the cigar lighter (make a note defining which wire goes to which spade on the lighter)

8. Now you can take that piece to a bench for more comfortable working

9. There is a steel band holding the boot to the plywood console piece, remove all nails holding the band in place, save the nails and not that the nails with a nail-head go where the zipper terminates.

10. Now that the band is gone you will need to remove more nails that hold the boot in place.

11. Position the new boot and use a staple gun to hold it in place. Much easier than trying to re-nail. I don't think the concours judges will notice.

12. Replace the band and tack it back into place. I used a small ball peen hammer and the original nails. The steel band has small holes to accommodate the nails.

13. Reverse steps 4, 3, 2 and 1

14. Drink beer
