Well I found part of it. Front fender liners from 76 up Volvo 242, part numbers are left: 1254747-7 and right 1254748-5. Back in 1983 when this was written, they were about $40 each new. Tom Baruch of London Auto Service in Falls Church, VA, was the one who originally figured this out.

I didn't find my written instructions, but if I recall correctly, you need to fashion a bracket to support the inner bottom front. Tom and I both used some of the metal strap about 3/4" wide with holes in it that comes in rolls, formed into a sort of "T" with the base bolted to the fender liner and the other end screwed into the frame rail or inner fender. At the inside bottom of the back, we drilled a hole through both plastic liner and the coupe wheel well. The outside edge of the fender liner clips onto the fender lip.

This worked quite well with 6" wide stock wheels, but I had quite a bit of rubbing when I went to 7x14 wheels with 225/60s. About that time, I had a series of mechanical and rust problems which pretty well took that car off the road, where it is today, in the midst of a very slow restoration (read decades...).

The liners aren't a real good fit in the inside of the wheel well, but they do effectively deflect most of the crud away from the body cavities inside the fender.

The part numbers were supposedly still good not too many years ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if these parts are hard to get, given their age. I haven't heard anything about how Volvo is about supporting 20+ year old cars.

Good luck,
Bill
