The result will be air leaks around the shafts which makes it impossible to properly adjust the carbs. I'm assuming the $1600 was for a triple Weber setup which is a very cool addition but unless you're going to to cams and such is not really necessary and creates a whole 'nuther ball of worms. As was suggested, find a nice used set of Zeniths or a shop that can rebuild yours. Of course, with used carbs you gotta realize that they have possibly been used as much as yours. -Phil Jim Muir wrote: > Does anyone on the registry have any experience with "Throttle shaft > bushings" for the Zenith carbs on my BMW? It could also be other issues, such as a worn distributor (uneven running). Try using an aerosol can of carb cleaner or "quik-start", with a plastic tube to spray around the shaft ends, and then the carb/manifold gasket areas. If there is a leak, you'll get a rise in RPMs. How do you know it's running lean? That problem is common with the Solex side drafts on the 2000CS, most noticeably at idle or steady throttle, and the usual solution is Webbers. The Solexes can be rebushed, but is probably more predictable and cost effective to go to Webbers. In your case, the twin downdraft Webbers would be cheaper and better. If your tech guy is correct, perhaps Webbers are appropriate but surely you can find some as salvage from a wrecked (sigh) Coupe which do keep keep showing up now and again. Perhaps even from an E3 (Bavaria) but you will need to contact the SSR on your own. Just a few folks there despise even the mention of Coupes and are not too fond of me either since I dared to disagree with their opinions on various issues. But in all it is a good group with which to communicate and a fun car to drive and especially useful since so many mechanical pieces are shared with E9's. It was just spoiled by a very few nasty people at the levers of power. They have Brembo, Balo Mintex, etc., which in my experience are as good as OEM for fraction of BMW dealer cost. Bavauto is OK, but you pay shipping on rotors. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Nice driver, quite presentable with only minor rust issues. In my typical German style, I had to start improving it, which now has developed into a complete restoration. The rust issues have been repaired, interior removed, glass and engine out, ready to be sent to the painter. I like details to be correct when I restore a car. Unfortunately, I do not know the coupes well enough. I will be working on the engine mechanics and accessories while the car is away at the painters. Is there a reference source that can show me exact details of the engine compartment? A BMW manual, or maybe extensive pictures of a very original engine bay that I can follow? Any help would be appreciated. Bob Klemme Long Beach, CA 562-988-0521 **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dining, Movies, Events, News & more. Hell if I know why I have them, but anyone want/need? $10 plus shipping from 97007. I also found two brand new Pebra door locks, each with a pair of keys. They are different key numbers, and the locks are identical in configuration, so they're not a pair. Maximillian lists these for $99 each! Anyone give $25 each plus shipping from 97007? Finally I have the German version of the heater control panel markings for a later (lighted dash) car. The control pane is broken (vents are broken off), but the part that indicates the functions and holds the lamps is in great shape. If you've got a CSi that was converted to English, or just want to have the German control markings, this is your solution. I'll ship it intact in the control panel to keep it safe, then you can remove the control markings. $20 plus shipping from 97007. All of these items can ship via US mail, so shipping to anywhere in the US would likely be under $10. Tony -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I believe I can dye/paint the door and kick panels black fairly easily. I'd imagine that dying the carpet is a straight-forward task, right? So, some questions about what to do with the seats: 1. Get them all recovered in leather or vinyl? Anyone done this lately? At what possible cost? 2. Find a set of fronts and backs in good shape and recondition them (dye 'em if they are not black). Any one have such seats for sale? 3. Find a set of rear seats (per 2., above) and then upgrade the fronts with alternatives - say from an E24 or E30 2-door? I have confidence that I can fabricate whatever seat track accommodations that might be necessary, and, wire whatever accommodations the electrics might require. Any one swapped out their front seats like this? If so, what should I be looking for - and at what likely cost? Any and all suggestions and personal experiences would be appreciated. You can answer directly to me or via the list. They are in very good condition. The leather is supple free of cracks and cuts or other defects. The stitching is all in great shape. The color is tan. The only negative is that the finish is worn on the driver set left bolster and the could use a refinish using leatherique products. I am located in NJ and asking $1000 for the two seats. I could have them refinished professionally but that would cost an added $500. I have had good experience with leatherique on other seats. I have decided to get my seats recovered (they now are tatty blue velour). I am going to have the seats and all the back seat accessory pieces re-done in marine blue BMW vinyl - with the center sections of the seats done in the perforated/herring bone/chevron impossed vinyl that I have as insert accents in my door panels. That will be unique, eh! I am so lucky to live near SMS Auto Fabrics. I visited their facility today and was awed by the vast variety of materials they have. Surely, there is no larger such vendor in the world. I showed my door panel insert to a warehouseman and he went right to the exact bolt of material - this in a warehouse at least 100 yds x 60 yds x 15 yds, crammed with rack upon rack of auto materials. Amazing. So, now with a mental commitment to a recovering plan, I took off my ten-year-old sheepskin seat covers and discovered that sometime in the last ten years both seatback release level "covers" (the plastic chrome and black escutcheon plates surrounding the holes in the seat backs) have disintegrated - except for whatever is left of them under the screws holding them on. I know how futile this request might be, but does anyone have these plates? Why BMW did not execute them in chrome metal is probably a bean-counter issue. My upholstery guy thinks he can source some suitable alternatives, but I have to exhaust the possibility of obtaining OEM replacements! I have also ordered a new blue carpet set from World Upholstery. I figured while the seats are out, I'd tackle the new carpeting. I'll let you all know what I think of this experience in a couple weeks. TIA for any help. Gary Burke 1973 3.0 CS +2240356+ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
