After years of use the carb body will get warn where the shaft has
rotated oh so many thousands of times. The result will be air leaks
around the shafts which makes it impossible to properly adjust the
carbs. I'm assuming the $1600 was for a triple Weber setup which is a
very cool addition but unless you're going to to cams and such is not
really necessary and creates a whole 'nuther ball of worms. As was
suggested, find a nice used set of Zeniths or a shop that can rebuild
yours. Of course, with used carbs you gotta realize that they have
possibly been used as much as yours.
