For unknown reasons , sometimes a different colour of model will be half the price of others in same series (red vs blue ??) . Other marques -and fire-engines etc also (bring your wallet !) GM manufactures cars in China for China, as well as other parts of Asia. I the south and east of China, the most common personal cars on the road are GM -- Buick sedans and minivans. They're close to outnumbering the VW taxis. My last trip to China was two weeks in October of 2007. Almost every mile of the driving we did was in GM products. I know this will piss off some of you, but GM would be well served to start importing complete vehicles from China instead of just parts and components. Their margins would improve dramatically. Despite the new President's lip service to the unions during the campaign, the cows are out of the barn, too many trade deals are on the books for the US to return to the protectionist conditions of the past. The way forward is to leverage the trade agreements and the global resources. I've got nothing but sympathy for the employees of the big Three, but manufacturing jobs that pay double the median income are a thing of the past in the US. In 20 years a job assembling cars in the US will be as rare as a job delivering milk or doing fax machine repair. I think dealerships as a component of the sales process are on the way out too. A car maker doesn't need to support a network of sales outlets, nor commit the inventory to keeping big lots of complete vehicles at all points of the compass. There's this amazing new thing called "the internets"...
