Premature emailification. As I was saying, only a few E9's at Ofest. Sharon Turner showed a nice '73 CS and took 3rd in Concours Original, and Scott Hughes took 3rd in the concours Race class with his CSL. Several sweet 02's, including a cabrio. A new Ofest event this year was Bimmermeet, two days of driving and related events at Road Atlanta added on to the end of the week. That attracted 3 CS's and one CSL (Scott Hughes again). I may have missed a couple. Events like Vintage @ The Vineyards in NC seem to be attracting many more of the early cars. Anyway, the main reason for this post: my sun visors have bugged me for long enough. This vinyl visor portions are actually in pretty good shape, but the plastic escutcheons at the A-pillars are cracked, the mounting screws are rusted, and the L-shaped metal rods are uglified. My questions: how do I get the L-shaped metal rod out of the visor? Was it originally chrome-plated? Are the plastic escutcheons available? Source for new chrome screws? Thanks for any advice and/or leads. There were a couple E9s available here in the Minneapolis area (an environment not kind to cars to begin with) over the last few years that I looked at and they both had terminal cancer in various parts of the body, especially the front inner fenders. Both had been driven on a semi-regular basis but were parked due to a cascade of both body and mechanical issues, they will never be drivers again. Don?t know how much this is being repeated across the country. Also keep in mind the age of these cars, they are starting to get rather long in the tooth, and people who don?t drive them on a regular basis (to preserve them, little do they know rust never sleeps) are not comfortable piling in the car and heading out on a multi-day journey. Time waits for no man, or car. E9coupe.com users are now considering re-establishing a registry of currently existing coupes. I hope Art has not succumbed to health problems. Perhaps you can shed some light, if you know? I understood that at least 2 of my old CSL?s were supposed to be there with the LeMans winner on track and probably both it and the twin turbo on display somewhere. Sorry about the game. I saw it and felt it was gonna be a good ending with only 1 minute 9 seconds left and LSU 95 yards away from a touchdown. I guess LSU didn?t get to be #4 for nothing. Great game, bad ending. Curtis Ingraham (Silicon Garage) in NorCal does a high quality job of recoring brass radiators with tropical cores. I had him do a 2002's radiator, but he does coupes as well. Maybe they can remove top or bottom tank and rod out the tubes. A new copper rad is upwards of $450 and although they are good for decades, you can likely replace with an aluminum rad for about 1/3 the price. The aluminum unit will last "only" 20 years or so before the plastic tanks get brittle and crack. Compare prices of 3 row core + install to purchasing a 5 series aluminum radiator. Last one I purchased was of good qualilty which I installed in an '83 533i, forget the brand, Now www.autohausaz lists aluminum rads for between $175 to $212 depending whether Nissen or Behr, manual or auto trans. No personal interest, YMMV, etc., less expensive may be available if you search, but I don't think you'll be anywhere near that (much higher) with a replacement copper core. To my knowledge and experience, unless you are racing or running AC full time and full blast in really hot weather, the standard 2 row will work okay _IF_ it is in good condition. You can run the motor too cold. The gage should read about midway, or slightly above/below that. Let us know how you decide to proceed, this is a decision which I am slowly approaching myself. E12 rad will need some creative hose routing, but nothing exotic nor particularly difficult. I've only removed them from cars I parted and that was a lot of work. Basically, the core is inside the heater box, so you have to remove a lot of stuff under the dash. It is even worse if your car has A/C, as that has to come at least part way out. I'd remove both the front seats and the steering wheel for easier access to working under the dash. Maximillian shows the core as still available new, for almost $300. http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=3435 &mospid=47811&btnr=64_0864&hg=64&fg=05 Curt Ingraham on the 2002FAQ has had a couple recored in the past and he recently estimated that recoring would cost about the same $300. Also, this is likely to become one of those "while I am in there" situations where you find lots of things that need tidying!
